Abstract

The unified hierarchy is a new, currently optional and experimental, replacement for the legacy cgroup hierarchies. It aims to solve several problems inherent in the old cgroup implementation, such as the per-controller ad-hoc behavior regarding resource splitting between tasks and sub-cgroups. It also aims to simplify the cgroups kernel code.

We describe differences between the legacy and unified hierarchies, describe how cgmanager deals with these changes and what other users need to know.
