Linux Plumbers Conf 2009 » Announcement http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009 Developing the Kernel, Libraries and Utilities Fri, 09 Oct 2009 17:58:16 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.8.4 en hourly 1 LPC videos are going up http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/10/lpc-videos-are-going-up/ http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/10/lpc-videos-are-going-up/#comments Fri, 09 Oct 2009 17:58:16 +0000 Nivedita Singhvi http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/?p=795 We’ve started populating the Program page with available videos, including Linus’s git tutorial and some of the security, networking and x  sessions. We’d like to thank the Linux Foundation video site which is hosting these for us.  Not all of the sessions were taped, unfortunately – only the sessions in one of the tracks/rooms all day long were taped – something we hope that next year’s organizing committee will be able to improve upon!

A few broken URLs and slide pointers have been cleaned up. If you don’t see your slides here please do send/ resend them to us at contact@linuxplumbersconf.org. Speakers who want to add their updates, summaries or notes on the sessions can do so by editing their proposal pages as well (linked to on the Program page).

If you have any questions or suggestions for next year’s conference, please do send in your comments to us at contact@linuxplumbersconf.org.

Thank you all! http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/10/thank-you-all/ http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/10/thank-you-all/#comments Thu, 01 Oct 2009 16:19:50 +0000 Nivedita Singhvi http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/?p=727 The 2009 Linux Plumbers Conference Organizing Committee would like to thank all of our generous sponsors, our fantastic speakers, our enthusiastic attendees, our superb program committee, the Linux Foundation’s indefatigible Angela Brown, the very supportive Linux Foundation Board, the efficient Marriott team,  Oregon State University and its wonderful Open Source Lab which hosts our computer infrastructure, and all of the tremendous people who volunteered to help us pull off an outstanding conference! We had a remarkably successful event and we hope a good time was had by all.

So thank you!

Conference Material
We’re adding all of the slides, videos and BoF notes that we can get our hands on to our Program page  as they become available. We hope to have the videos online in the next couple of weeks. If you took notes and have a write-up, a summary, photographs, video or any other material related to the conference that you’d like to share with us,  please contact us!. We’d love to gather whatever we can and build it up into a comprehensive repository. We’d particularly like to hear about progress as a result of discussions at LPC: did you resolve a problem? Implement a feature? Get code submitted? We’d love to hear about it!

LPC Registration opens 7:30AM PT Wednesday (come early!) http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/09/lpc-registration-opens-730am-pt-wednesday-come-early/ http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/09/lpc-registration-opens-730am-pt-wednesday-come-early/#comments Wed, 23 Sep 2009 04:59:28 +0000 Nivedita Singhvi http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/?p=681 As we were unfortunately unable to open registration this evening for LPC as planned, we’re urging conference attendees to get an early start on Wednesday morning.

We will open registration around 7:30AM, PT. The conference begins at 9:00AM PT with our welcome and David S. Miller’s keynote address.

As we anticipate that we’ll need to process the entire LPC attendee population prior to the conference start for logistical reasons, we’re hoping all 315 of you arrive at a beautifully optimized constant rate at  our registration desk in the time interval between 7:30AM and 8:59AM.

We suspect that’s possibly a tad unlikely. We suspect the much more likely scenario is a rather ill-distributed bell or poisson. Of course, given that practically all of our attendees are software engineers, perhaps it should not surprise us if 305 of you show up at 8:59, thereby maximizing sleep and minimizing time spent waiting for Dave Miller to start talking (while the remaining arrive at 6:47AM having taken the only convenient max train). Please don’t do that. Be kind to your conference organizers! Come early! Come staggered!

But seriously, our trained professional registration folks are well prepared for these sorts of things and are confident of getting all of you done really quickly.

Enjoy the conference!

Keynote update and reminders… http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/09/keynote-update-and-reminders/ http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/09/keynote-update-and-reminders/#comments Tue, 22 Sep 2009 15:17:12 +0000 Nivedita Singhvi http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/?p=669 I’m delighted to be able to say that we will have David S. Miller, networking maintainer for Linux, key Sparc dude, and long time Linux kernel contributor joining Keith Packard in our keynote lineup at Linux Plumbers Conference. David will be talking on Wednesday and Keith, legendary X Window guru and Linux icon, will be talking on Thursday.

David’s talk and Keith’s talk are on our schedule, as is the joint Intel sponsored reception event for LinuxCon and Linux Plumbers attendees at McCormick and Schmick’s on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 6:00PM PT onwards.

See you all there!

It’s good and it’s bad – we’ve hit our registration capacity http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/09/its-good-and-its-bad-weve-hit-our-registration-capacity/ http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/09/its-good-and-its-bad-weve-hit-our-registration-capacity/#comments Thu, 17 Sep 2009 02:59:46 +0000 Nivedita Singhvi http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/?p=647 We’ve reached our conference registration maximum, I’m afraid, and if you attempt to register now, you’ll get our message saying so. While we’re delighted that there has been so much interest in our conference, we’re also sorry to be turning people away. However, wait! All is not lost! If you’re interested in attending Linux Plumbers Conference this year, please do go ahead and send us an email at  contact@linuxplumbersconf.org. We are processing a few cancellations and will continue to do so, and will allow additional registrations as we can. First come, first served, so get in touch!

Schedule, BoFs, and time running out to register! http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/09/schedule-bofs-and-time-running-out-to-register/ http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/2009/09/schedule-bofs-and-time-running-out-to-register/#comments Tue, 15 Sep 2009 04:44:30 +0000 Nivedita Singhvi http://linuxplumbersconf.org/2009/?p=635 If you delay any longer, you’ll have lost out on the opportunity to participate in a terrific technical smorgasbord of events.  Our program schedule is up. One update to the program schedule we will highlight here is a keynote talk by Christopher Marklund of Laika, the animation studio, producer of classics like Coraline.

If you’d like to submit a Birds of a Feather (BoF) session, you may  do so here.

If you’re interested in attending LPC, please register right away, as we are very close to reaching our maximum capacity and will need to start turning away people soon.

We’re very interested, as always, in hearing from the community. If you have any feedback at all – questions, comments, suggestions, criticism – you can always reach us at contact@linuxplumbersconf.org. We’d love to hear from you, especially if you have suggestions to improve the conference, this website or related communications.

See you all next week!
